Car exports boomed in October, registering double-digit year-on-year growth of 18%; Maruti’s dominance

A total of 39,666 units were exported in October 2021, as against 33,616 units in October last year. Maruti Suzuki has five cars in the top ten. These five alone account for about 45% of the exports.

Hyundai has two cars while Kia, Nissan and Honda have one car each in the top 10. Negative growth in the top 10 are Seltos, Verna and Creta. Domestic bestsellers like Thar, XUV300 and Celerio have zero exports in October.

Top 10 Car Exports October 2021 – DZire Leading

Maruti Suzuki Dzire is at number one with exports of 5,636 units in October. The year-on-year growth is 546.33% as compared to 872 units exported in October last year. The share of exports is 14.21 per cent.

DZire is also one of the best selling cars in India. Here, it is expected to get a CNG variant soon. Other Maruti cars like Swift, Baleno and Brezza will also get CNG option soon. The company will try to capitalize on the growing demand for CNG cars, which is due to rising fuel prices.

Baleno is second with exports of 5,016 units in October. The year-on-year growth is 80.43% as compared to 2,780 units exported in October last year. The share in exports is 12.65%. As part of the plans to update its portfolio, Maruti will soon launch the new generation Baleno. The hatch will get several styling updates and new features on the inside. Powertrain options are expected to be similar to the current model.

Swift is at number three with exports of 3,977 units in October. The year-on-year growth has more than tripled as compared to 1,162 units exported in October last year. The share in exports is 10.03%.

Kia Seltos is at the fourth position with exports of 3,027 units in October. The year-on-year growth is -18.74% lower than the 3,725 units exported in October last year. The share of exports is 7.63%. The Seltos is expected to get a significant update next year in the form of a diesel IMT variant. As of now, the IMT transmission is offered only with the petrol variant. The Seltos diesel variants currently get transmission options of 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.

Next on the list is the Nissan Sunny, which is manufactured in India exclusively for the export markets. Exports stood at 2,356 units in October. The share of exports is 5.94%.

City tops in year-on-year growth

Honda City has been placed at the ninth position with exports of 1,541 units in October. The year-on-year growth has increased by 5037% as compared to only 30 units exported in October last year. The share in exports is 3.88%. In the domestic market, the likes of City, Verna and Ciaz will soon have a new rival in the form of Skoda Slavia.

Other cars in the top 10 include Hyundai Verna (1,797 units), Jimny (1,762), Hyundai Creta (1,662) and Maruti Brezza (1,287). Of these, Brezza has the highest annual growth rate of 479.73%. Brezza’s exports stood at 222 units in October last year.
