A replacement for the Rapide, the Skoda Slavia will rival the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz

As part of its new strategy for the Indian market, Skoda will soon unveil its new C-segment sedan called the Slavia. Earlier this year in June, the Czech carmaker had launched the new Octavia and Kushak SUVs. Slavia is the spiritual successor of Rapid which is now closed. This will be a significant upgrade in terms of design, feature list and performance.

Skoda Slavia Styling & Features

Compared to the Rapide, the Skoda Slavia has a sportier look and feel. Some styling bits are borrowed from the new Octavia. The Slavia has sharp creases and grooves all around it, adding to its visual appeal.

Some of the key features include the signature slanted grille, sleek headlamps and DRLs, crisp front and rear bumpers, sporty alloy wheels, body colored ORVMs with integrated turn signals, blacked-out B pillars, sloping roofline and pointed taillamps. The top-spec model is expected to get a sunroof.

With its sharp design, the Slavia easily qualifies as the quintessential head turner on the roads. It is taller, wider and longer than most of its rivals. Only the new Honda City is taller and longer than the Slavia. However, the Slavia wheelbase of 2,651 mm is the longest in the segment. With its larger dimensions, the Slavia is expected to be more roomy than the inside. It might even have best-in-class boot space.

Slavia is based on the same platform as Kushak. It could get a similar set of features on the inside. Some of the possibilities for the top-spec variant include 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather seats, auto AC, wireless charging and Skoda sound system.

Connectivity features will also be available through the Skoda Connect app. Some of the useful ones include real-time vehicle tracking, speed tracking, geofence alerts, parking location finder, device tamper alert, tow alert, emergency SMS with location, road side assistance and driving behavior analysis.

Skoda Slavia Engine Options

The Slavia will borrow the powertrain option from the Kushak. However, these will be modified to suit the specific needs of the sedan. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine generates a maximum power of 114 hp at 5,000-5,500 rpm and 178 Nm of peak torque at 1,750-4,500 rpm. It is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second engine is the 1.5-litre TSI petrol unit that produces 148 hp and 250 Nm. It is offered with transmission options of 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG unit.

Safety kit for Skoda Slavia includes front, side and curtain airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), EBD with EBS, hill hold control, tire pressure monitoring system, anti-theft alarm, engine immobilizer with floating code system and rear- Views may be included. Camera and sensor.

With enhanced features and better performance, the Skoda Slavia is expected to be priced higher than the Rapid. It is expected to be positioned as a premium C-segment sedan. Slavia can be launched in the price range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh.
