The Skoda Kushaq is currently offered at a price range of Rs 10.50 Lakh to Rs 17.59 Lakh (both prices ex-showroom).
After a long and arduous wait, Skoda has launched the much awaited Kushak in India. In its first month of sales, the Kushaq registered a dispatch of over 1,800 units – becoming the best-selling Skoda car in India for July 2021. It also became the first model from the Czech carmaker to be completely designed and developed in India.
The compact SUV is getting generally positive reviews from most of the quarters. But there are some customers who are not happy with this car. Some of Kushak’s unhappy customers have posted their disappointment with the product on social media. Zack Hollis, Brand Director, Skoda India has assured that the company is looking at resolving the Kushak owners’ issues at the highest level.
In the Facebook group Skoda Kushak Club India, where Zack is a member, he posted, “There will always be some initial quality concerns with the launch of any new car from any manufacturer, anywhere in the world. In fact, Kushak’s concerns are few. This does not mean that they are not serious to the customers concerned and the technical team in Europe and here in India is working round the clock to address them using all the processes and protocols established over hundreds of launches in the Volkswagen Group.
We have already distributed thousands of Kushaks to customers in India and have only a few issues. In the world of social media, they are always seen a little more. I have personally messaged these customers to assure that their concerns are of top priority and we will have a solution to restore their confidence in the product. We stand by all our customers on any issue.”
Kushak active on the card?
The Kushak has a long lineup with plenty of options to consider. It gets two engine options, both of which are offered with the option of a manual as well as an automatic gearbox. Apart from this, customers get to choose from three trims such as Active, Ambition and Style. Currently, except for the base Active trim, the other two options are offered with an automatic transmission.
Skoda India has equipped the base-spec variant of the Kushak with an automatic powertrain. This comes as a surprise as Zack Hollis had earlier said that they do not have plans to launch an automatic option on the base trims of the Kushak. It is likely that Skoda plans to add an automatic gearbox to the active version of the Kushaq at a later stage. If launched, it will offer a more affordable automatic alternative to the Kushak for the consumers.
Engine, Transmission Options
As of now, the most affordable automatic variant of the Kushak is offered with the mid-spec Ambition trim at Rs 14.20 lakh (ex-showroom). It should also be noted that the Active and Ambition variants are only offered with the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI turbo petrol motor. While only the top-spec styling variant is offered with the additional option of a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine.
The former can churn out 114 bhp and 178 Nm of peak torque while the latter makes 148 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. Both the units can be paired with either a manual transmission or an automatic gearbox. Skoda may also introduce the top-spec Monte Carlo trim of the Kushak later.
Features on Active Trim
Feature highlights of the Kushaq Active include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a multi-info display, manual air conditioner, rear AC vents, keyless entry and electrically adjustable ORVMs. Safety is taken care of by multiple airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control.
