Skoda has registered over 6,000 bookings for its new Kushak SUV in India – it has now become their best seller

Skoda Kushak was launched in India on 28 June 2021. This marked the automaker’s entry into the compact SUV segment, in which it will take on rivals such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Priced between Rs 10.0 lakh and Rs 17.60 lakh, Skoda aims that the new Kushaq should really carve a niche for itself and not take on any of its Korean rivals.

Skoda India has registered a growth of 234% in July 2021 sales as compared to the July 2020 period. When compared with the period of June 2021, sales have increased by about 320 per cent. This is all thanks to their new Kushaq SUV, which has already become the best selling Skoda car in India.

Mr. Zack Hollis, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India said, “The Kushak was launched with a view to substantially increase our volumes in India, and it is very encouraging to see our plan take shape. Despite the challenging environment, we have managed to have a truly successful launch, which is in line with our strategic focus and volume expectations.

Moreover, the new launches have enabled us to build a strong momentum across the value chain. We are seeing an increase in dealership footfalls and customer inquiries. There has been a manifold increase in requests for new dealerships from the dealer fraternity across India. We are pursuing an aggressive strategy to take the Skoda brand to new and emerging markets across the country with partners who share our vision of excellence and customer-centricity.”

Types, color options and features

The Skoda Kushak is the company’s first offering to be developed under the Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 project, which was first announced in 2018. It is also part of an investment of 1 billion euros between 2019 and 2021, aimed at boosting the company’s growth. presence in the country.

The Kushak is offered in three variants – Active, Ambition and Style. It is available in 5 different colors – Tornado Red Metallic, Candy White, Carbon Steel Metallic, Honey Orange Metallic, Brilliant Silver. Dimensions stand at 4221 mm in length, 1,760 mm in width and 1,612 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,651mm and boot space of 385 liters.

The Skoda Kushak boasts of a rugged design. It sports sharp creases across its body along with a large butterfly front grille, sleek LED headlamps and faux air dams. Features include a silver skid plate at the front and a sharp shoulder line, while it rides on 17-inch alloy wheels under the flat wheel arch. The rear design elements are the C-shaped tail lamps and prominent ‘Skoda’ letters on the boot lid.

The interiors of the new Kushak differentiate themselves in terms of quality and comfort. The cabin has seen extensive use of soft touch material and leather along with metallic buttons and switches. It has a large 10-inch touchscreen multimedia system with wireless smartphone connectivity and Mykoda Connect. The front occupants get a wireless smartphone charging pad and the rear passengers get USB-C charging ports for their devices.

Where the Skoda Kushaq excels is in terms of on-board equipment that is offered upwards from the base variant. Its Active trim gets manual AC, twin spoke multifunction steering wheel, 6 speakers and front armrest. It also gets safety features which include dual airbags, electronic stability control and multi-collision braking. ABS with EBD is also offered as standard. Safety equipment includes roll over mitigation, brake disc wiping and anti-slip regulation, while higher trims get 6 airbags, rear parking camera, auto headlamps and tire pressure monitoring system.

Power comes from two petrol engine options. The 1.0 liter engine makes 113 hp and 178 Nm while the 1.5 liter TSI engine makes 148 hp and 250 Nm. The former is mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, while the latter is mated to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG unit. The Kushak comes with a standard 4 year/1,00,000 km warranty which is extendable up to 6 years/1,50,000 km warranty.
