MG continues to see Hector and Hector Plus as key drivers while ZS EV and new Gloster also adds to the sales numbers

MG Motor India, like the rest of the auto sector, is grappling with a shortage of semi-conductor chips. Due to this shortage of chips, the company has to resort to a reduction in production by a third. Even with the bookings coming in, the company is facing a tough time in meeting these challenges and reducing the waiting period to three months. Dealer stocks are also limited.

MG Motor sales October 2021

MG Motor October 2021 sales stood at 2,863 units. This was a drop of 23.65 per cent as compared to 3,750 units sold in October 2020. Sales in October 2021 were also lower by 11.66 per cent as compared to 3,241 units sold in September 2021.

The company has seen excellent demand for Hector and Hector Plus with over 4,000 bookings, while for ZS EV and Gloster, the bookings stand at 600 units, setting the pace for the festive season.

New ester to add to the sale

The company has also introduced the new Astor mid-size SUV in mid-October priced at Rs 9.78-16.78 lakh and promises deliveries from today. MG Astor has been introduced in five variants and five color options and its booking has started on the company’s website and authorized dealerships for Rs 21,000.

There was a positive response with the Astor being sold out in 2021 within 20 minutes of the opening of bookings. Bookings have now started for delivery in 2022. MG Astor competes with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Renault Duster.

MG Motor India, like every other automaker in India, is facing a severe shortage of semi-conductor chips. This has affected production due to lower than expected sales. For MG Motor, availability fell further due to chip shortages, with a 50 percent drop in October, despite a one-third drop in production in September. This shortfall is expected to continue through November and December with supply improving only till the first quarter of 2022.

New MG Astor

The MG Astor is offered in five trims – Style, Super, Smart, Sharp and Savvy. It is based on the ZS EV but has many different features.
